Christina Ongoma is the Upstream and Advisory Services Manager for IFC FIG in APAC. In this role, she oversees the origination, incubation and execution of new and innovative private sector solutions that are designed to address some of the biggest development challenges in the financial services industry in APAC. She is also responsible for driving the Upstream business and strategy for FIG in the region, which seeks to stimulate and help create conditions conducive to the flow of foreign and domestic private capital into productive investments in the financial services sector. Previously, she served as Principal Investment Officer and Upstream Lead for FIG in APAC, and prior to that, as Principal Investment Officer - Capital Markets, in IFC’s Global FIG team in Washington D.C. where she was responsible for originating and structuring capital markets solutions for IFC’s FIG clients globally and developing a pipeline of investment opportunities for the IFC.

Prior to joining the IFC in 2017, Christina held the position of Managing Director, Global Capital Markets - Banking, in Scotiabank’s Global Banking and Markets division in Toronto, Canada. In this role she oversaw the structuring and deal execution functions for Scotiabank’s global portfolio of regional FIG clients. Christina spent ten years at Scotiabank in a variety of senior roles, including as a Director in the Hedge Funds and Structured Transactions team, as well as a Director & Head of Client Solutions for ScotiaMocatta, Scotiabank’s precious and base metals arm.

Before joining Scotiabank, Christina worked in Structured Finance and Securitization in the legal and rating agency industries in both North America and Europe, where she covered a wide variety of asset classes including: Asset Backed Securities, Credit Derivatives, Commercial and Residential Mortgage Backed Securities and Infrastructure Financings.

Christina graduated from the University of Ottawa with a BA (Hons). She earned a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University and a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Canada. She has been called to the Bar as a Barrister & Solicitor in Ontario, Canada, and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario.
