John Fischer

Chief Investment Officer, Accion

John Fischer is the Chief Investment Officer at Accion. In this role, he oversees all Accion’s direct and fund investments in financial institutions and fintechs that benefit the world’s more than 1.6 billion financially underserved people.

John joined Accion in August 2000 working on Accion’s Bridge Guarantee Fund, a loan guarantee vehicle for microfinance institutions, and the Accion Gateway Fund, an equity investment fund for microfinance institutions. In 2003, he helped launch Accion Investments in Microfinance, SPC, a private equity investment company for microfinance institutions worldwide, and in 2007, he helped lead the successful million capital raise for Accion Investments, incorporating new private investors to the fund.

Since then, John has worked to launch the Accion Frontier Inclusion Fund, LP and the Accion Quona Inclusion Fund, LP, global scale-up stage fintech for inclusion funds, together with Quona Capital, and the Accion Digital Transformation Fund, LP, a global private equity fund for inclusive financial institutions seeking to digitize operations and Accion Venture Lab Fund II, LP, a global early-stage fintech for inclusion fund. John currently sits on the Investment Committees of these funds.

While at Accion, John has served on the boards of directors of leading microfinance institutions worldwide including MiBanco (Peru), Banco Solidario (Ecuador), Banco Popular Covelo (Honduras), Sociedad de Ahorro y Credito Integral (El Salvador), and Accion Microfinance Bank (Nigeria).

John holds a Master of Business Administration and a Masters of International Relations from Boston University and an undergraduate degree from Haverford College.
