Professor of International Law and European Union Law, Former Director of the Department of Business Studies of the University of Roma Tre, in Rome, Italy, where he teaches ‘European Banking and Financial Law’, ‘European Competition Law’, ‘International Law of Economy’ and ‘European Union Law’, Professor Fabio Bassan is Founding Director of the Sovereign Wealth Funds Law Centre.

Prof. Bassan is a well-known scholar and lawyer operating in the Blockchain and cryptoassets markets, as well as in the Electronic Communications, International Banking and Financial Investment arena. He has been member of the board of Directors of companies listed in the Italian stock market and of banks. He usually works as consultant in antitrust and regulatory affairs (Blockchain, Communications, Copyright, Transports, Banks, Financial Markets, Foreign Direct Investments, Sovereign Wealth Funds, Golden Power).

Former Consultant of the Italian Parliament (1995-6), of the Italian Ministry of Communications (1999-2000), of the Italian Transport Authority (2013-2015), of the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (2014-2016), of the Italian Banks Association (2017).

He has been appointed (2016-2022) as Conciliator at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the World Bank Tribunal for disputes between Governments and private investors.

Prof. Bassan is founder and name partner of VBL, an independent Italian Law firm.  He speaks fluently Italian, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and has basic knowledge of Russian and Parsi.
