World Book Launch: STUBBORN and Africa's Pension Moment
Add to calendar

About This Session
Two books exploring the forces that shape economic progress, from the persistence of individual founders to the systems that underpin long-term financial security.
ABOUT STUBBORN
Founders are often understood through the companies they build, capital they raise and the valuations they reach. Less visible is the person making the decisions: carrying doubt, holding conviction and choosing to continue without any guarantee of success.
Drawing on thousands of untold founder journeys, STUBBORN explores the unreasonable psychology of builders who refuse to break. It shifts attention from the venture to the builder, and from the outcomes we measure to the persistence behind them.
ABOUT AFRICA'S PENSION MOMENT
Across Africa, pension systems have expanded, yet the vast majority of workers remain excluded from retirement savings. Rising life expectancy, climate disruption and economic uncertainty are turning pension exclusion into an increasingly urgent fiscal, economic and social risk.
Co-published by Universal Pensions, APSA and GFTN, Africa’s Pension Moment examines how pension systems can be redesigned for informal and vulnerable workers. Drawing on African reform experiences and global insights, it explores the role of digital infrastructure, regulation and household resilience in building inclusive pension systems that can scale, strengthening Africa’s long-term economic security and social stability.

About this session
Billions of people and small businesses remain outside formal credit because financial institutions cannot reliably identify, assess or price their risk. This panel examines how payment infrastructure, digital identity, transaction data and AI can change that — turning previously invisible economic activity into a basis for lending and investment.
