Jörg Gasser (born in 1969) took up his role as State Secretary for International Financial Matters at the Federal Department of Finance (FDF) on 1 July 2016.
He began his career working for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). From 1996 to 2007, he was responsible for leading many challenging negotiations in positions which included deputy chief delegate in Pakistan and Iraq and later division head at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva.
In 2008, Jörg Gasser worked as an economic and financial affairs expert in the Federal Department of Justice and Police (FDJP). Later, he was the ad interim Director of the Federal Office for Migration, Secretary General of the FDJP and, from the start of 2011, Secretary-General of the FDF. He has thus played a very influential role in all important international financial, tax and monetary policy matters.
Jörg Gasser holds a Master’s degree in Macroeconomics and International Relations from the University of Zurich. He is married and has one daughter. He speaks German, French, English and some Arabic.
