Mr. Hirofumi Aihara is responsible for driving innovation and promoting digital transformation in the bank and for the wider MUFG group.
Mr. Aihara has 27 years of experience in systems and information technology with the bank. He has held positions in corporate finance and risk management, and implemented several projects to upgrade the bank’s IT infrastructure.
Prior to his current appointment, he was General Manager of Asian Systems Office in Singapore, where he was responsible for initiating and implementing several key and critical systems in all of the bank’s offices across 13 markets in Asia and Oceania. He was also a key player in the bank’s efforts to start the proof of concept testing for utilizing blockchain technology for check digitalization in Singapore.
Mr. Aihara was previously based in New York in the United States, where he headed the Bank’s IT planning department. He was also a part of the project team in Tokyo that implemented the bank’s management information system (MIS) and re-engineered several IT business processes in corporate planning.
Mr. Aihara obtained BA in Engineering from Osaka University (Japan) in 1990.
