Chuin-Wei Yap

Chuin Wei Yap is a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal. Based in Hong Kong, he writes on financial technology, regulation and money flow. He was previously with the Journal’s Beijing bureau for nine years, where he wrote dispatches on China’s underground banks, capital outflows, the decline of its once-mighty steel industry and a wide range of other subjects from commodities to macroeconomics.
A native of Singapore, he began his career in the public service in Singapore with the ministries of trade and industry, and finance, including stints on international economic relations and corporate regulation. He previously reported for news media in New York, Washington D.C., Florida and Maine. Chuin Wei has degrees in Modern History from Oxford University and International Affairs from Columbia University.
