Ann Cairns is the President of International Markets for Mastercard, responsible for over 200 countries and customer-related activities outside the United States and Canada. Ann is a member of the company’s C Suite and is based in London. She is a great champion of financial inclusion and diversity in the workplace.
Ann brings more than 25 years’ experience working in senior management positions based in Europe and the U.S., running global retail and investment banking operations. Prior to joining Mastercard in August 2011, she was a managing director and head of the Financial Industry Services group for Europe with Alvarez & Marsal in London. From 2008 to 2011, she led the European team managing the estate of Lehman Brothers Holdings International through the Chapter 11 process.
Previously, Ann was chief executive officer of Transaction Banking at ABN-AMRO in Amsterdam, where she managed a global business with over 5 billion euros in revenue in 50 countries, covering the commercial, retail and financial institutions segments, and reporting to the Group Board as a member of the Operating Committee. Prior to joining ABN-AMRO, She spent 15 years in senior positions at Citigroup after joining the investment back in 1987.
At the start of her career, Ann was as an award-winning research engineer, who became the head of Offshore Engineer-Planning for British Gas. She was the first woman qualified to go offshore in Britain.
She is the Chair of ICE Clear Europe and member of the group board of ICE 2017. She was a member of the Audit Committee and Board of Astra Zeneca from 2014-2017.
